Premier's Harmony Dinner - Evening Highlights
The Premier’s Harmony Dinner showcased a culture of respect and unity in our NSW society and speeches delivered throughout the evening by the Premier, Minister for Citizenship and Communities Victor Dominello and Chair of the Community Relations Commission (CRC), Mr Stepan Kerkyasharian touched on key historical themes and the enormous contribution made by immigrants to NSW. They also outlined the myriad potential opportunities that currently exist within our diverse multicultural network.
The evening commenced with an inspiring speech by Master of Ceremonies Jeremy Fernandez, ABC TV presenter, followed by the Welcome to Country by Michael West, Metropolitan Aboriginal Land Council, and a Smoking ceremony by Uncle Max Eulo. The CRC Chair, Mr Kerkyasharian, introduced dignitaries.
Prior to formal speeches, an entertaining tribute to multiculturalism was delivered by the charismatic pair Mr Jihad Dib, CRC Commissioner and SBS TV News Presenter Peta Jane (PJ) Madam. The story telling was both confronting and comical, with Mr Jihad Dib giving his account of being a young migrant boy growing up in Sydney, NSW.
