Interpreting and Translation

The Language Services Division of the Community Relations Commission provides comprehensive interpreting and translation services in over 85 languages and dialects (including Auslan).

Our services are available to all New South Wales Government departments and agencies, as well as private and commercial organisations, community groups and individuals.

Our professional interpreters and translators play a vital role in achieving our mission. The provision of linguistic services through the Commission is part of the New South Wales Government's commitment to ensuring the full, fair and equal participation of all people in programs, services and processes, and enables the New South Wales' Public Service to achieve community participation by breaking down barriers.

Interpreting

We offer onsite interpreting in a wide range of areas including legal matters, police investigation, community interviews, licence testing, educational and health situations, workshops and seminars, as well as individual or client-group interviews.

Our face-to-face interpreting services are available 24 hours a day 7 days a week. 

Translation

We offer a variety of translation services which includes personal documents (e.g. drivers licences, birth certificates, qualifications), sight translations, multilingual translations of pamphlets, transcription of audio/video tapes as well as checking and proofreading of translated material.

Our translation services can be provided within 24 hours, 7 working days and 14 working days.

How to book our services

Bookings for the Division's interpreter and translator services may be made:

  • in person at any of the Commission's office locations shown on the right hand side of this page. Sydney Office hours Monday to Friday 8:00am - 5:00pm, Regional Office hours 9:00am - 4:30pm. Please click on the "view map" link for further directions;
  • by telephoning the Division on 1300 651 500 for the cost of a local call; or,
  • by emailing the Division on languageservices@crc.nsw.gov.au.

Existing customers of the Commission are now also able to book our interpreting services online via "LanguageLink" secure booking system. If you are interested in obtaining access to this facility, please call the Division on 1300 651 500 or email languageservices@crc.nsw.gov.au for further information and to obtain a secure Username and Password.

We work in partnership with tertiary institutions, professional associations and key New South Wales' Government agencies to provide opportunities for the professional development of interpreters and translators and to improve availability of language services in the Sydney metropolitan, regional and rural areas.
