Multicultural Entry Scheme
The Community Relations Commission For a multicultural NSW annually conducts the Multicultural Entry Scheme (MES), an examination for HSC students wishing to obtain up to five UAI points concession for entry into the Faculty of Health Sciences of the University of Sydney.
The examination tests language skills of candidates at a basic level in the context of providing health services to members of a multicultural community.
The Faculty of Health Sciences offers a special entry scheme designed to assist in meeting the demand for qualified health personnel with appropriate language skills to cater for our multicultural society.
If you speak, read and write a language other than English and have the associated cultural background (such as participation in community activities or membership of community groups and organisations) you may qualify for entry under this scheme.
Who is eligible?
The Multicultural Entry Scheme is open to students undertaking the 2008 Higher School Certificate. You are eligible to be considered for entry under this scheme if you pass a community language examination administered by the Commission and if you achieve a UAI equal to or better than the minimum set for Multicultural Admission.
How does this scheme work?
Eligibility under the MES allows students who have passed a community language test to compete for a place in any course in the Faculty of Health Sciences with a UAI slightly below the course cut off.
How are you examined?
The MES examinations are conducted by the Community Relations Commission For a multicultural NSW. Staff from the Commission will contact applicants with test details. The examination will take place in late November or early December 2008. Candidates must be availalble to attend; deferment is not possible.
How much does it cost?
The fee for the examination is $35.00 including GST.
What happens to your results?
The results will be forwarded to the Faculty of Health Sciences. If you pass the examination you will be considered for entry under the Multicultural Entry Scheme. If you fail the community language examination you will be considered for entry on the basis of your UAI in the usual way.
